With all the chaos and stress from this month, time really felt like it flew by! Like, what even is time?! If someone out there has figured out how to slow it down, please let me know 🙃. Anyhow, my reality is: work and Xiao Ye have become damn close to all-consuming!
I’m not complaining, but rather just acknowledging it because it’s real life! The last time I felt this way was when I was working two full-time jobs in DC, but back then, I was (almost) an entire decade younger and I seemed to have the energy of, well, a spry 20-something. I don’t know how I used to do it; I’m feeling unbelievably grateful that two of our closest friends are coming to spend a whole. entire. month! in Portland (they get in next Monday!) to be some extra hands and, more importantly, the emotional support Lou & I desperately need. In addition to them being here, we’re also hoping to start the majority of our core team by mid-August, finally giving us the minds and hands and bodies to power us through to opening (which is now definitely mid-Sept at the earliest). While we’ve penciled in a friends and family date, I’ll wait until we pass final inspections before I tease it out to all of you; I know there are a few of you, reading this right now, who are wanting to fly out whenever we’re open, so you’ll definitely be the first to know. Eeeeeeek, can you tell I’m nervous about making it so official?!
🎵: Speak Now (Taylor’s Version), her third re-recorded album, came out just in time for her tour to make its way to the West Coast (I know because it felt like everyone from Portland, except me lol, traveled out-of-state to see her). Kinda bragging, kinda jealous, but I got the chance to see her on her Reputation tour and I must say, she puts on a show, so this Eras Tour must be insanity. It was actually listening to this album back in 2010 that really got me into her in the first place so, needless to say, this re-release has been on repeat all month long. And of course, with every new Taylor Swift release comes a new episode of the Every Single Album podcast, where the hosts break-down the album, her vocal changes, all the easter eggs, and their thoughts on the vault songs.
🎥: This past weekend, I donned my pink jumpsuit, slapped on my pink apple watch, and grabbed my pink phone and rolled up to the Laurelhurst Theater for the 12:30pm showing of Barbie (fyi, it’s so much more affordable to watch movies at our local theater, I couldn’t recommend it enough). I went in not knowing much about it besides the Architectural Digest videos of the Barbie Dreamhouse tour and the Barbie Dreamhouse Evolution I’d watched a few weeks ago. I’d love to hear your thoughts about the movie, but I was really pleasantly surprised at how well it was done. It even made me tear up!
📺: With the writers’ strike (and now the actors’ too) going on, I’ve noticed that Netflix’s “top” categories are featuring a lot of old movies and shows. On an evening Louis went to play badminton while I stayed at home, nursing a sprained ankle and getting an evening to myself, Suits, a 2010’s cable tv show I’ve never watched was somehow all the way up to number 2 when I logged on! I remember, at some point in our relationship, Louis saying it was a good show, so I decided to give it a shot! IT’S GOOD, Y’ALL. Like House M.D., but with law instead of medicine (and I was pleasantly reminded that Meghan Markle was in it!). It’s pretty low stakes, which is perfect for me right now, and there’s a resolution at the end of almost every episode.
