Building out a restaurant is not for the mentally weak. I’m not sure what happened, but the last two weeks have been SLOOOOOOW. Painfully slow. We were supposed to be fully done with construction by July 24, final inspection passed and our certificate of occupancy in hand. From the outside, I’m sure it seems like we’re flying through this process, but from the inside, it feels like the slowest army crawl to the finish line. While I’m doing an alright job keeping it together, each day we walk through those doors and see our space with nobody there working and no more progress than the last day, Louis gets more and more unhinged! Now I have a deeper understanding of the phrase, time is money.

Even though it’s been brutally slow on our end, a lot has happened since my last construction update: the restroom accessories have been put up, the banquettes are in (with their seat cushions), our cabinetry is partially complete, the wallpaper in the PDR is up, the door casing that was painted the wrong color (twice!) is now correct, and all the lights are installed! 🎉

When the restrooms started coming together with tile and paint, it quickly became one my favorite rooms. I’m pretty happy with how the tile design turned out and how comfortable the space feels with the soft globe lights in. It’s one thing to have these little material samples in front of you looking good together, but it’s a whole other thing when it’s up on the walls at a large scale!

When the painters finish priming my walls, it’ll be time for me to jump in and lime wash the stalls with Atelier Color in Habitat. I’m excited! It’ll be my first time lime washing, so I’ve been watching a lot of tutorials to make sure I know how to make organic, feathering strokes for that natural textured look 😂. Up next on my agenda: Research cute waste baskets that are functional and hygienic. Do they exist?!
